Regina residents may have noticed their tap water tastes and smells a little off lately.

The city says it’s due to very high levels of algae in Buffalo Pound Lake, where Regina sources its drinking water.

The Buffalo Pound Water Treatment Plant is currently using powdered activated carbon in an effort to reduce the unusual taste and odour.

Officials stress that Regina’s water remains safe to drink, and the taste and odour issues are only expected to last for two weeks.
