A woman is dead after the ATV she was driving collided with a van on a highway in east-central Saskatchewan over the weekend.

The crash occurred on Highway 10 just south of the Melville highway bypass shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday.

RCMP say it appears a northbound side-by-side ATV crossed the centre line of the highway and collided with a southbound van.

The driver of the ATV, a 25-year-old Melville woman, was taken to a Regina hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her name hasn’t been released.

A 33-year-old female passenger in the ATV from Ituna was also transported to hospital in Regina with undetermined injuries.

The driver and passenger of the van, both adults from Duff, Sask., were taken to hospital with undetermined injuries and have since been released.

Witnesses saw a dead deer lying on the shoulder of the highway before the collision, and that’s believed to be a factor in the crash, Mounties said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
