Two youths have now been charged with first degree murder in the death of a Yorkton man earlier this month.

RCMP have identified the victim as 67-year-old Lawrence Skoretz. The two youths cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

On September 13, 2016, a man was found unresponsive on Wellington Park Road near Waterloo Road. According to RCMP, there was a physical altercation between Skoretz and the two teens at a nearby park.

The youths appeared in Yorkton provincial court on Friday morning. In addition to the first degree murder charges, they have been charged with one count of robbery with violence. Court proceedings showed that the teensmade off with a wallet, cheque book, keys and receipts.

Around a dozen friends and family members of the victim were also in court. One brought a picture of Skoretz to the proceedings.

The victim’s brother told CTV News that the family has come together in support of Skoretz and that justice will be served.

RCMP have not identified how Skoretz was killed and the investigation is ongoing.

The two youths will make their next court appearance on October 6.
