A Saskatchewan man who sexually assaulted his own granddaughters is now behind bars.
Eighty-six year old Pete Therrien of Willow Bunch was sentenced in a Moose Jaw courtroom today.
Therrien’s attorney had requested his client serve his sentence as house arrest.
But Judge Margaret Gordon ruled that option out entirely - saying that Therrien breached a position of trust by molesting his own granddaughters more than 2 decades ago, Given the serious nature of the crime, nothing short of jail would be appropriate.
He will spend 18 months in custody.
His granddaughters who struggled for more than twenty years to bring, their grandfather, Therrien to justice say they were glad to finally see him put behind bars.
They hope their case will encourage other sexual assault victims to come forward, and bring more pedophiles to justice.
