REGINA -- Adam Taniskishayinew plead guilty to manslaughter in the death of Denny Jimmy, Court of Queen's Bench confirmed to CTV News on Thursday morning.

Taniskishayinew was originally charged with second-degree murder following the death of 30-year-old Jimmy in June of 2019.

He will be back in court on Wednesday, Mar. 10 at 10 a.m. for his sentencing submission.

On June 11, 2019, police were called to a single vehicle crash near 5th Avenue and Lindsay Street. A man, later identified as Jimmy, was declared dead at the scene.

Jimmy's older sister, Carrie O'Soup, said she isn't mad at Taniskishayinew. She said she now needs to focus on finding healing from Jimmy's death and spending time with Jimmy's young daughter.

"A big part of me wants to hate Adam and wants me to have the hate inside of me but I just feel sorry for him, because it's another life affected," O'Soup said.

O'Soup said her brother had a tough life. She said at seven-years-old he was involved in a house fire in Regina which left significant scarring on his face.

"He never had an easy handheld to him," O'Soup said. Burning in a fire, losing his best friend at seven-years-old and having to deal with bullies in school. People staring and pointing. But Danny was tough, he was a tough kid."

Jimmy was convicted of manslaughter in 2009 for the death of Douglas David Anderson. Two other men were also found criminally responsible for Anderson's death.

"I just wish this never happened and I wish he had a chance to change his life," O'Soup said while crying.
