All but one of the 77 changes to Saskatchewan’s liquor rules that were announced last fall have now come into effect.
The government announced Tuesday that another 37 changes have taken effect, bringing the total number of changes implemented to 76.
A few of the changes now in effect include:
• Permitted salons and spas will be allowed to sell and serve alcohol to clients.
• Permitted restaurants will be able to offer bring-your-own-wine service to customers.
• U Brew/U Vin operators will have the option to offer delivery service to customers.
• Licensed establishments will be allowed to open at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays and holidays, similar to other days of the week.
The final change, which will allow striptease and wet clothing contests at permitted establishments, will take effect Jan. 1. The government says that will give municipalities time to enact related bylaws, if they decide to do so.
The changes were announced in November, and the first 39 were implemented in May through policy changes made internally by the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority. The latest 37 changes required legislative and regulatory amendments.
Minister responsible for the SLGA Donna Harpauer says the changes will benefit both businesses and their customers by cutting red tape.
