Football is a mainstay in Regina, but this July Saskatchewanians will be able to take in a different kind of football at Mosaic Stadium. The Valencia FC from Spain will take on the New York Cosmos FC in a soccer game.

The game will take place on July 22, 2017. The mayor says the city expects to sell out the stadium for the event.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have this event coming to Regina,” Mayor Fougere said in a written release. “This is further confirmation that our iconic new stadium is a world-class venue. This is just one example of the myriad of ways this multi-purpose facility will be put to good use in the decades to come.”

It will be the Spanish soccer club’s first visit to Canada.

“All at Valencia CF are eagerly looking forward to our game against the New York Cosmos on Saturday, July 22,” said Valencia CF Marketing Director Damià Vidagany in a written release. “This will be the club’s first visit to Canada, and we take great pride in being invited to play in the first major football game at the new Mosaic Stadium.”

Tickets for the game will go on sale on Friday, May 12 at 10:00 a.m. through Ticketmaster and the Brandt Centre box office. Prices will range from $22 to $66 plus service charges.
