A 20-year-old man is facing charges, including attempted murder, after a shooting that sent another young man to hospital with serious injuries.

Police say a 19-year-old man was walking along Fourth Avenue near Athol Street on Friday night when a vehicle passed him and then stopped.

A man armed with a shotgun got out of the vehicle, walked up to the victim and fired at him.

The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

On Saturday, police arrested a suspect in connection with the case. Officers also recovered the weapon believed to be used in the shooting.

Kenyon Ralph Kay of no fixed address made his first court appearance Monday on a charge of attempted murder.

Kay, 20, also faces a firearm-related charge. He was remanded into custody until his next court appearance Wednesday.

Police say further charges are anticipated, and investigators are looking into the possibility that the shooting was gang-related.
