A 20-year-old man is facing three charges of attempted murder after a Regina taxi driver was stabbed and two other men were also injured in an incident last week.

Leroy Aaron Redwood of Calgary made his first court appearance on the charges Monday morning.

According to police, 31-year-old Iqbal Singh Sharma was violently attacked by patrons in his cab last Thursday night. Sharma was stabbed three times, including once in the neck, and remains in hospital in a coma.

Police were called to the 2100 block of Park Street around 9:20 p.m., after numerous calls of a person in distress. When officers arrived, several people were at the scene, beside a parked taxi cab, trying to help the injured driver.

Police say it appears there was an altercation inside the taxi, which continued after the driver stopped and tried to get out of the vehicle.

Officers found the driver and another man who was also hurt, but still able to walk. Both men were taken to hospital by EMS.

Meanwhile, police received information that there was another injured man in the area of Park Street and Abbott Street. The man was also transported to hospital by EMS.

Police took a fourth man, who was reportedly behaving suspiciously, into custody at a business on the service road in the 900 block of Victoria Avenue East. The 20-year-old man did not need medical help.
