The body of a man has been recovered from Last Mountain Lake after an ATV rider plunged through the ice over the weekend.

An RCMP dive team found the body in the lake shortly before 1 p.m. Monday. The identity of the man is not known.

Mounties say a father and son were crossing the lake on two all-terrain vehicles near the community of Grandview Beach on Saturday when the ice gave way.

The father fell through the ice and the son tried to retrieve him from the water. However, he lost sight of him and called 911.

Police say they were unable to start the search over the weekend because mild temperatures left the ice unsafe.
