One person is dead after a head-on collision between a car and a flat-deck truck in west-central Saskatchewan.

Witnesses say the car had no headlights and was driving in the wrong direction on Highway 16 at the time of the crash, which happened Tuesday night near Paynton.

RCMP say the driver of the car was killed in the collision. No name has been released.

The driver of the truck was taken to hospital in North Battleford with what were believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

Highway 16 was closed near the scene of the crash for several hours while police investigated.
