RCMP have charged a 43-year-old man with second-degree murder in the killing of a woman near the Saskatchewan town of Springside over the weekend.

Police have identified the victim as 40-year-old Tammey Lynn Kulaway from Springside.

RCMP say they responded to a report of a stabbing at a rural property near the town at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Officers found the victim's body in the yard.

Police arrested a suspect at a home on the property after negotiating with him over the phone. Authorities say the home belongs to the accused and that the victim knew him.

An autopsy is scheduled in Saskatoon early this week.

Richard Lesann from Springside is in custody awaiting his first court appearance in Yorkton on Monday morning.

Springside is located about 25 kilometres northwest of Yorkton.
