The City of Regina and the Rural Municipality of Sherwood appear to be at odds over how to develop several properties around the edges of the city.

The RM has requested permission from the province to proceed with two major industrial developments.

It wants to approve construction of warehouses and factories along the Trans-Canada Highway both east and west of the city.

However, in its official community plan, the City of Regina is hoping to expand into those same areas with new residential neighbourhoods.

At an executive committee meeting Wednesday, councillors unanimously opposed the RM’s proposal.

The committee also directed city administration to work with their rural counterparts to explore options while Regina and the RM develop their official community plans. Both plans will be submitted to the province for final approval.

The city and the RM are working toward new agreements that aim to improve communication and collaboration on development issues.
