The City of Regina is already taking measures to reduce the risk of spring flooding.

The weir beneath the Albert Street bridge has been partially opened to allow water to flow out of Wascana Lake.

Water levels could reach their highest level in 20 years once the spring melt begins, the Saskatchewan Water Authority says.

While you won't see any difference, you will probably be able to smell it. The winter rot of decayed vegetation in the lake will likely cause a stink as the water moves.

Residents are being reminded to keep children and pets away from the lake.
