New rules are on the horizon for homeowners renting out rooms in Regina.
City council has voted in favour of tightening the rules for homes in which short-term accommodations are provided. About 65 such dwellings have been identified in the city.
Council also voted to remove the "rooming house" land use designation from the zoning bylaw and added a “short-term accommodation” definition and a “residential homestay” land use classification.
The decision was good news for local resident Ian Zerr, who had concerns about noise and parking.
Council heard from several other concerned residents at Tuesday night’s meeting.
The city says it believes enforcing current bylaws will improve conditions for tenants, and nearby residents, but not everyone agrees.
Resident Brian Black says Regina should follow the lead of other cities and license rooming houses.
