Redistribution
The riding loses an east-west oblong area from the northeast corner west almost to Virden that contains Sioux Valley plus that reserve, Rivers, Shilo and Carberry to the electoral district of Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa. The riding gains two small areas in the northeast (after it is reduced as above) near Treherne; and in the southeast, the Pilot Mound area from Portage—Lisgar.
Electoral History
Created from Brandon and Souris ridings in 1952, Brandon had Tory notable Walter Dinsdale who won a 1951 by-election and held Brandon-Souris until his death in November of 1982, a minister of northern affairs in 1960. Fellow Tory Lee Clark won a 1982 by-election and was MP until 1993, when he retired and the split on the right allowed Liberal Glen McKinnon to win—the only Liberal from 1951 until 2008. He ran third in 1997 to PC winner, Rick Borotsik. He held the seat until retirement in 2004 when Tory Merv Tweed won, retiring in 2013 when a Nov. 25 by-election was won by Conservative Larry Maguire.
