A former Regina high school teacher accused of having a sexual encounter with a student has been found guilty of professional misconduct.

The Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation says its professional ethics committee is recommending a penalty after finding Christene Laurans guilty of the charge.

In June, the federation launched a disciplinary hearing after a student at Balfour Collegiate alleged Laurans had a sexual encounter with him.

The alleged incident reportedly took place in a mall parking lot after Laurans arranged a meeting with the boy via text message.

The penalty hearing is scheduled for Oct. 2 in Saskatoon.
