A Fransaskois flag was raised at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building on Wednesday in celebration of the French language and francophone culture.

The flag was raised to highlight the annual Rendez-vous de la Francophonie event.

Representatives from the Assemblée Communautaire Fransaskois (ACF) and several dignitaries were on hand for the flag raising.

March 2 to 22 is Rendez-vous de la Francophonie 2017 in Saskatchewan.

The celebration coincides with the International Day of La Francophonie on March 20. This year’s focus is “La Francophone in 3D: Diversity, Duality and Dynamism.” The theme of the event relates to the cultural and economic exuberance of Saskatchewan’s French-speaking communities.

“Rendez-vous is an exciting opportunity that we have in Saskatchewan to promote the strength and growth of our francophone communities,” ACF provincial secretary Nadine Wilson said in a written release.

There will be more than 2,500 events taking place throughout Canada this month. Events include a Just for Laughs team tour of Canada, film screenings, winter carnivals, flash mobs and many other activities.
