The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations and Government of Saskatchewan have signed an historic agreement to establish a joint task force on education and employment.
The task force will go on and off reserves throughout the province to help eliminate current gaps in education and employment outcomes for First Nations and Métis people in Saskatchewan.
The joint task focus has several goals including:
• Improved early childhood outcomes and transition to school;
• Increased high school and post-secondary completion rates;
• Improved participation in the labour force and employment; and
• Greater quality of life and enhanced self-sufficiency.
The three-member task force will be appointed by the end of summer. The cost of the task force is estimated at $2 million.
