A 16-year-old girl is dead after a collision between a car and a minivan east of Lloydminster.

Three people in the car and the two occupants of the minivan were all taken to hospital following the crash at the intersection of Highway 16 and Highway 303 on Saturday night.

RCMP say a 16-year-old girl who was a passenger in the front seat of the car was pronounced dead in hospital. Her name hasn’t been released.

A 16-year-old boy in the rear seat of the vehicle suffered critical injuries and was taken to the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton.

Mounties say alcohol is believed to be involved and charges could be pending.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
