A man was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after a semi-trailer collided with a train in a community just east of Regina on Monday.

The semi was heading south on Railway street in Pilot Butte when it collided with a Canadian Pacific freight train shortly after 1 p.m.

The collision caused extensive damage to the semi, which ended up in the ditch on the other side of the tracks.

RCMP said the driver of the semi, a 48-year-old Regina man, was transported by STARS air ambulance to the Regina General Hospital.

No one on the train was hurt.
