A man has been charged in a hit and run earlier this month that seriously injured a 19-year-old pedestrian.

The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 19 in the 900 block of Victoria Avenue East. According to police, a red SUV was travelling eastbound on Victoria Avenue when it hit a pedestrian and drove away after the crash.

Police say an extensive investigation showed a red GMC Jimmy was involved in the crash. On Aug. 24, police saw a vehicle matching that description driving in the area of Dewdney Avenue and Albert Street. When police stopped the vehicle, they said the man was driving without a license and was the subject of other warrants under the Traffic Safety Act. Further investigation showed the driver was involved in the hit and run.

Brandon Michael Mushanski, 26, has been charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident involving bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 9.
