A forensic psychologist says a man convicted in an attack that left a Regina senior brain-damaged is at a high risk of committing further violent crimes.
Dr. Roger Holden made that statement at the third day of the dangerous offender hearing for Justin Piapot on Wednesday.
Piapot was found guilty of assault causing bodily harm following a January 2009 attack at the home of Jerry Gray.
The court heard Piapot has substance abuse and anger issues, in addition to a violent criminal history.
"His record speaks for itself," Holden said.
"We have an individual who could react violently in certain circumstances, which causes concern."
During his trial, a lawyer for Piapot argued he elbowed the 68-year-old man in self-defence.
Piapot could face an indefinite prison sentence if he is declared a dangerous offender after the hearing, which is expected to wrap up Friday.
