A man who worked as a doctor in Yorkton is facing sexual assault charges involving several women.

In 2001, a woman reported a sexual assault to RCMP in Yorkton. Since then, a total of 12 women have come forward with similar complaints.

The alleged offences took place between 2001 and 2008, and all of the women told police they first encountered the accused at a medical facility in Yorkton, where he worked as an obstetrician and gynecologist.

Following a lengthy investigation, 72-year-old Mohammed Haque was arrested at his home in London, Ont. on Feb. 2 and charged with six counts of sexual assault. He has been released on conditions, including having no contact with any of the alleged victims, and is scheduled to appear in Yorkton provincial court Feb. 22.

Haque gave up his medical licence in 2012 following allegations to the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan of sexual misconduct with female patients.

While charges have been laid in connection with six of the complaints, RCMP say there may be other victims who would have encountered Haque through his work in the medical field.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward by contacting Yorkton Municipal RCMP at 306-786-2400 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
