The Saskatchewan government has appointed a special mediator to try to resolve the contract dispute between teachers and the province.
Labour Minister Don Morgan appointed Calgary-based mediator Richard Hornung on Tuesday.
The province says the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation has agreed to suspend all job action and work with the mediator to reach a settlement.
If the dispute remains unsettled by June 10, Hornung will prepare a report to the minister and cabinet and provide recommendations for resolving outstanding issues. The mediator is expected to submit his report by June 30.
The teachers' federation is asking for a 16.3 per cent wage increase over three years, while the province is offering 5.5 per cent over three years.
