Two men facing first-degree murder charges in the death of 25-year-old Bladworth resident Rob Vicente appeared in provincial court in Regina on Monday.
Twenty-two-year-old Darak Andrew More from Saskatoon and 20-year-old Devin Riel Joseph Schmit from Fort Qu'Appelle were remanded into custody awaiting their next court appearance in Regina on March 1.
Fighting back tears outside the courthouse, Vicente's mother Pam said her son was the victim of a "senseless" crime.
"Rob was a fun-loving guy, a gentle guy, who wouldn't hurt anyone," she said.
"We find solace in the fact that suspects are in custody and that we are one step closer to getting justice for Rob."
She added that her son was not friends with either of the accused.
In addition to first-degree murder, the two men are charged with robbery with a firearm.
More is currently serving a sentence from an unrelated case at the Regina Correctional Centre.
Vicente had been missing since last October. Police later found his burned-out car in an abandoned field west of Davidson.
RCMP are searching a rural property in Davidson for a third time in hopes of uncovering Vicente's remains. The search is expected to last several days.
