A Saskatchewan man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of his fiancée.

Kenneth Worme entered the plea Wednesday at Court of Queen’s Bench in Regina. Worme was originally charged with second-degree murder in the death of 27-year-old Shauna Welch of Moose Jaw.

The Crown and defence are jointly seeking 14 years in prison with no chance of parole for at least half the sentence. With credit for time spent in remand, Worme would serve just over 10 years.

Welch was found dead inside a home in Raymore in March 2014. She and Worme were engaged to be married, according to her Facebook account.

Victim impact statements from Welch’s family were read in court Wednesday.

“The loss of a child is agony, which is sometimes more than any one soul can bear,” Welch’s mother, Lynn, said in her statement.

Welch’s father, Ken, said “now I suffer to know that I will never be able to have grandchildren.”

Worme broke down in tears while addressing the court.

“If I could take my life right now and bring her back, I would,” Worme said.

In February 2008, Worme pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm for brutally attacking a 23-month-old boy while he was babysitting his then-girlfriend's three children.
