Nearly 5,500 people have responded to an online survey about changes to Regina’s smoking bylaw, the City said in a news release Friday.

Since the survey launched last Friday, 5,495 people have submitted their thoughts on the proposed changes. According to the City of Regina, the survey has generated the highest number of responses in recent years.

The City also says people have submitted more than 2,100 comments on social media and through emails to fire@regina.ca.

The survey is gathering public opinion on smoking in outdoor areas, including parks, patios and athletic fields. The current bylaw was updated in 2004.

The City is hosting open houses on the topic on March 8 and 9. The survey is available at regina.ca/smoking.
