A maintenance issue at a SaskEnergy natural gas regulator station gave some Regina residents a scare Sunday morning.

A loud hissing noise was coming from a border station on south Pasqua Street as it released natural gas into the atmosphere.

Residents in the area could hear the loud noise from their homes and there was a natural gas smell in the air.

SaskEnergy says a minor maintenance issue caused the station to release gas. The cause of the malfunction remains under investigation.

There is no impact on public safety or service and the station is still in operation.
