The Saskatchewan Legislative building has new lights. While they look like they could be a century old, the new fixtures feature the latest in LED technology.
The lamps have a bright while light and consume half the power of the orange street lighting common throughout the province.
These new lamps also last up to a decade or more before they need to be changed.
LED street lighting in rare in Saskatchewan. Besides at the legislative building, they’re also found on Boychuck Drive in Saskatoon.
However, they are common in other places throughout Canada. New Brunswick recently announced that they entire province will switch to LED lights. Over 70,000 street light bulbs will be switched at a cost of $6 million. It’s estimated the savings from the low energy bulbs will pay for themselves through savings in approximately four years.
