Regina police officers are once again riding transit buses to nab distracted drivers.

The second installment of Operation Bus Cop runs throughout the month of October.

Uniformed police officers will periodically rides city transit buses to spot drivers using cellphones or engaging in other distracted driving behaviours.

Police say transit buses offer an excellent vantage point to observe distracted drivers.

Distracted driving is the leading cause of traffic fatalities in Saskatchewan. Last year, there were 8,296 collisions in which distracted driving was a factor, up from 5,700 collisions in 2015.

The first Operation Bus Cop in March resulted in 138 tickets for cellphone use while driving.
