The City of Regina has launched a new recycling program downtown and in the Cathedral neighbourhood.

The pilot project will install blue bottle baskets to garbage cans throughout the area, giving people the option to recycle bottles and reduce litter. The initiative has already been implemented in Saskatoon and has been successful so far.

“I’d like to see something like this, as simple as perhaps drawing our attention to composting and just getting as much garbage away from the landfill and into recycling and composting bins on the roads,” Andrew Stevens, Ward 3 city councillor, said. “I hope this is the first step into a lot of those small, creative initiatives that talk about recycling rather than garbage.”

The SARCAN Public Space Recycling Grant supported the initiative and contributed to the program.
