REGINA -- Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall says he wants to stick around for a third term.
Wall will be the first Saskatchewan Party candidate nominated for the next provincial election when he gets the nod at a March 20 event in his hometown of Swift Current.
He says more time in office is not about building a legacy.
"No, we're just not done yet," he said Tuesday at the legislature. "We've set out with a growth plan. We've made some commitments to the people of this province. I think there's still more work that needs to be done."
Wall was first elected as an MLA in 1999 and became Saskatchewan Party leader in 2004. He led the party to its first election victory in 2007 and repeated the feat in 2011.
The premier also said he has asked all Saskatchewan Party members of the legislature to indicate whether they plan to run again.
"Some have indicated they're thinking of not running again, but we need to let them make the final decision, and then, more importantly, announce that decision.
"I'd expect there to be some changes going into the next election in terms of existing MLAs."
The next provincial election was to take place in November 2015, but has been bumped back to April 2016 so that it doesn't overlap with a federal vote.
There will be new faces in the Saskatchewan legislature in part because the electoral map has been redrawn to add three new constituencies, bringing the total number to 61.
It will be the first election for the Opposition New Democrats with Cam Broten as party leader. Broten took the helm of the NDP last March.
