The Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment is looking to tackle the province's moose problem.

The issue has been front of mind ever since RCMP officer Derek Pineo was killed near Wilkie last week when his cruiser hit a moose.

Moose populations have been steadily increasing over the past 40 years. Since 2008, the province has taken a more aggressive approach to keeping numbers down, issuing hundreds of hunting licenses.

Some have called for a cull of the moose herd, but the province says at this point, it will only monitor the situation. The province says public safety is the top priority.
