According to the latest research, the quality of water in Saskatchewan has reached an alarming state.

Ken Hutchinson, from the Calling Lake District Planning Commission, says there’s “more algae in Pasqua Lake now than in the great lakes when they were declared dead from too much pollution."

Regina's Pasqua Lake is about ten times worse.  Most of the pollution is due to nitrates found in Regina's waste water, which is pumped into Wascana Creek and fed into the Qu'Appelle system.

Although the city has committed to upgrading its water treatment facility by 2016, officials are looking at what needs to be done to clean up the lake.
