RCMP say the driver of an SUV who died in a collision with a truck hauling 27 horses east of Regina was 85 years old.
The crash Thursday afternoon on the Trans-Canada Highway near Balgonie forced police to divert traffic in the area.
The man who was driving the horse truck, which toppled onto its side, wasn't hurt.
Police say 12 of the horses died in the crash, including three that Mounties had to destroy on the advice of veterinarians because of their injuries.
Crews had cut open the truck to free the horses that survived.
Police say after the horses were removed the truck caught fire.
