Regina city council has approved a funding model and concept design for a new stadium.

Shawn Fraser was again the lone councillor against the plan at Monday night’s meeting.

The city is on the hook for $173 million of the $278 million project. That includes a $100 million provincial loan.

The province will also provide an $80 million grant, while the Saskatchewan Roughriders will kick in $25 million.

Regina residents would see their property taxes go up 0.45 per cent annually over a 10-year period. In addition, a facility fee of $12 would be added to tickets for games and major events.

The vote didn’t sit well with many of the more than a dozen people who spoke at the meeting. They argued the funding arrangement isn’t sustainable and that the money would be better spent elsewhere.
