A Regina man accused of pointing a rifle at four people and firing a shot into the air over the weekend made his first court appearance Monday.

Alvin James Norton, 40, is charged with assault, obstructing a police officer and numerous firearm-related offences in connection with the incident.

The case was adjourned until Wednesday, when a bail hearing is expected to be held.

It’s alleged that Norton pointed a rifle at four people, then fired a shot into the air following a confrontation at a home in the 2000 block of Broder Street on Saturday night.

Police say Norton and another man were both intoxicated when they were arrested at the scene. The other man was held until he sobered up and released without charges.
