November 1 to 7 is national Down Syndrome Awareness week and a local man was chosen to be the face of the national campaign.

Twenty-year-old Nicholas Popowich was chosen as an advocate and is the face of a billboard that will be seen across Canada.

The goal of the week is to increase public awareness of the unique strengths and abilities people with Down Syndrome.

“It feels good to be recognized and I’m just so proud,” Nicholas Popowich said.

Popowich is happy to let people know he lives a normal life – he has a girlfriend, friends, and a career with Sasktel.
