Regina police say two people, including a youth, are facing attempted murder charges after a 14-year-old boy was seriously assaulted.

Police were called to a house in the 1100 block of Cameron Street for a report of a seriously injured young person around 1 p.m. last Wednesday.

When officers and EMS arrived, they found a 14-year-old boy in serious condition inside the home. It’s alleged he was a victim of a “serious, sustained physical assault,” police said. The victim remains in hospital, where he’s being treated for his injuries.

Police identified two suspects and arrested one of them, a 27-year-old man, Saturday. The second suspect, a 17-year-old boy, was taken into custody Sunday.

Joshua Brendan Bird, 27, of Regina has been charged with attempted murder. A 17-year-old boy, who cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, also faces a charge of attempted murder. Both accused are scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Bird was previously sentenced to eight years in prison after he pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2010 death of 26-year-old Raymond Gardypie. He received double credit for the four years he spent in custody on remand and was released following his sentencing in 2014.
