Three men are facing charges after two women were allegedly sexually assaulted and held against their will at a home in Regina.

Police say officers were called to the 2800 block of Seventh Avenue early Sunday morning for a report of a possible sexual assault.

A 27-year-old woman told police she had run away after she was sexually assaulted and held against her will at a nearby house. She said her friend, a 25-year-old woman, was still in the home, but that she didn’t know the address.

A police canine unit followed the woman’s trail back to a house on MacKenzie Way in the city’s Glencairn neighbourhood. There, officers found a 25-year-old woman who said she had also been sexually assaulted.

Two men in the home were arrested without incident. One of the men was also a suspect in a November 2012 robbery, in which a 46-year-old taxi driver was beaten and robbed by two men.

Investigators learned a vehicle had left the scene of the alleged sexual assault. A witness had reported the license plate number and police used that information to find the house of the registered owner in the 500 block of Forgie Bay.

Police surrounded the home and, after speaking with the suspect on the phone, he was taken into custody without incident.

Christian Karuranga, 25, of Regina has been charged with sexual assault with a weapon, assault with a weapon and forcible confinement. He also faces one count of robbery in connection with the taxi robbery.

A second suspect in the sexual assault case, 31-year-old Nicolas Antonio Mann of Regina, faces charges of sexual assault, assault and forcible confinement.

The other suspect in the taxi robbery, 21-year-old Zabur Bakari Abdalla of Regina, has been charged with robbery and driving while disqualified.

All three made their first court appearance Monday morning.
