Regina police are looking for an axe-wielding suspect in an attempted carjacking.

Police say the victim, a 37-year-old man, had just pulled into a parking lot in the 1700 block of East Dewdney Avenue early Sunday morning when a man appeared at his driver’s side window.

The victim told police the man started banging on the window and demanding keys to the vehicle. The perpetrator then smashed the window with a small black axe he was carrying and reached inside, police said.

The victim was able to push the man’s hand away and the culprit fled on foot.

Police are looking for a male suspect, about five-foot-eight with a thin build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and his face was covered.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Regina police or Crime Stoppers.
