Saskatchewan Party – Bill Hutchinson
Bill Hutchinson is an architect whose record of community service includes four terms on Regina city council. As the councillor for Ward Two, Bill says he earned a reputation for being accessible to residents of the ward, and for providing them with effective representation on council.
Bill also has an extensive record of community volunteerism. He has been associated with the Regina Family YMCA, the Canadian Mental Health Association, Regina Exhibition Association, SIAST, Tourism Regina, the University of Regina Senate, Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation, Agribition and the Royal Red.
Bill was first elected to the legislature as the MLA for Regina South in the 2007 provincial election. He has served the minister of tourism, parks, culture and sport and the minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission.
He has also served as the minister of First Nations and Métis relations, the minister responsible for northern affairs and the Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation, and the minister of municipal affairs.
Bill and his wife, Jocelyn, live in south Regina, where they have resided for more than 25 years.
NDP – Yens Pedersen
Yens Pedersen was chosen as the NDP candidate for Regina South on June 17, 2010.
The 36-year-old is a lawyer at the Regina law firm Balfour Moss. In the past three years, Pedersen has run for the leadership of the Saskatchewan NDP, served as party president and ran as a candidate in Regina South in the 2007 provincial election.
He grew up on a family farm, near Cut Knife, and is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto.
Pedersen remains active in his community serving as chair of the taxation section of the Canadian Bar Association, council chair for St. Mark's Lutheran Church and a board member on the Salvation Army Advisory Board for Regina.
In the past, Pedersen has also served as president of the Regina Business Association, on the board of directors for Saskatchewan Express and the Royal Lifesaving Society (Saskatchewan Branch). He and his wife Maureen have two children.
Green Party – David Orban
David Orban has worked as a solar technician for the past two decades and is a life-long organic gardener.
Philosophically he is both a Buddhist, in that he believes in having compassion for all sentient beings, and a Taoist in embracing the concept of living in harmony with the natural world.
