The remains of two men who went missing in separate incidents on southern Saskatchewan lakes Wednesday have been found.

The body of a 43-year-old man who disappeared while swimming near the Alameda Dam was found Friday morning while the body of a 78-year-old man whose boat was found adrift on Last Mountain Lake was found Friday evening.

A group of local searchers from the White Bear First Nation — assisting an RCMP underwater recovery team, police officers and the Oxbow Fire Department — located the 43-year-old’s body around 10 a.m. approximately 450 feet from where he was last seen swimming, according to RCMP.

Witnesses reported seeing him disappear under water while trying to swim across a river near the dam, located about four kilometres east of Alameda, Sask.

The other man’s remains were found close to a dock where his belongings were spotted.

An RCMP underwater recovery team, alongside local officers, located the 78-year-old’s body submerged on the west side of Last Mountain Lake around 5 p.m.

The man’s boat was spotted on the lake Wednesday between Fox’s Point and Wee Too Beach just after noon. His truck and trailer were found at the boat launch, and several of his belongings were found at the end of the dock.

The names of the two men have yet to be released.
