A Saskatchewan man has been given a 12-month conditional sentence and a $75,000 fine after he pleded guilty to tax evasion in a Regina court.

The Canada Revenue Agency says 39-year-old Edward (Ted) Alexander Fuller, a self-employed welder from Alida, Sask., didn't file income tax returns for several years.

In addition to the fine, Fuller must pay about $75,000 in back taxes in three installments over the next three years.

The agency says Fuller failed to report business income of $230,855 and oil royalties of $77,795 from 2003 to 2005. He also didn't file returns or remit tax on just over $17,000 in GST.

Fuller also concealed assets by registering trucks, a pontoon boat, and a recreational vehicle in his mother's or his common-law wife's names, the agency says.

The agency says when it put pressure on Fuller to file the outstanding returns, he gave them his mother's Alida post office box as his address when he was actually living in White City.

Fuller's sentence will be served in the community and will be followed by two years of probation.

Alida is located about 250 kilometres southeast of Regina.
