REGINA -- A Regina family known for setting up an elaborate Christmas light display is cleaning up after someone drove a truck through their decorations.

The Allens, who live in the Lakeridge neighbourhood, posted on Facebook that someone drove a black truck onto their lawn on Tuesday night, damaging most of the Christmas set up.

"Last night around 10 p.m., a truck came down the street," homeowner Trevor Allen said. "I didn’t see the truck actually coming, I'm not sure if he was out of control or what happened but he drove up onto the lawn running over the Christmas display and then sliding over taking out this part of it and then took off."

Allen said a couple watching the light display saw the truck drive onto his lawn and called police. Officers were dispatched to the home, but didn't find the truck when they arrived.

Regina police told CTV News Regina they believe the driver was a man, and they don't know if anyone else was in the vehicle at the time. The truck is described as a black, newer model truck with a super-cab. Police also say the truck likely sustained damage during the incident.

Police say they're still investigating.

"If it was an accident take responsibility to it,” Allen said. “You know accidents happen, I understand that and I really hope it wasn't intentional."

Lights

The lights have been a tradition for the past two years.

The complete display, with more than 36,000 LED lights, was completed earlier this week. The lights are also set to music, which visitors can hear by tuning into a radio station.

"People would stop come shake my hand and thank me for the show saying that I made their Christmas and that just motivated me to go even more," Allen said.

Allen's neighbour, Bev Groff, says people in the Lakeridge area appreciate seeing the effort the Allens put into their display each year.

"It was nice to come out and listen to the music and everything,” she said. “I know there still are scourges out there but everyone have a Merry Christmas and hopefully it can get back to the way it was."

As for Allen, he's not going to let a Grinch's lack of Christmas spirit ruin the most wonderful time of the year.

"I’m going to rebuild,” Allen said. “I'm not going to let this stop me. I'm not going to let this ruin this for me. So I’m hoping to have the show back up and running by the end of the weekend."
