Two people are in custody after a lengthy standoff in North Central Regina.

Around 6:25 a.m. Wednesday, police were dispatched to a report of a suspicious person who was barricaded inside a house in the 1100 block of McTavish Street.

Police believed that the suspect was armed and was not alone in the house. A SWAT team, crisis negotiators and an explosives disposal unit were called to the scene.

Around 3 p.m., a 33-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were successfully removed from the home and were taken into custody after being assessed by EMS. No one was injured in the incident.

The scene is close to a school, and while there are no classes this week, there is a daycare in the facility. A police officer was stationed inside the building and the doors were locked as the situation unfolded.

Officers also set up a perimeter around the area, which has since reopened to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

Police say the incident is connected to the death of a 56-year-old Regina man who was found injured at a nearby house in the 1000 block of Princess Street on Tuesday. A 27-year-old Fort Qu’Appelle man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death.
