Fire officials say it will probably take a week to fully extinguish a blaze that broke out at a flax bale storage barn in eastern Saskatchewan.

The fire at the Bio-Fibre Inc. plant near the town of Canora started shortly after 3 p.m.

Crews had the blaze under control in less than an hour. No one was hurt and a majority of the plant is still intact.

The storage barn at the site bore the brunt of the damage. Bale piles outside the plant also caught fire.

The plant processes flax straw into fibres for use in a variety of products, including plastic decking.
