A 34-year-old substitute teacher is facing several charges stemming from alleged sexual assaults involving a minor in Regina.

Police say the 16-year-old girl, who came forward last Wednesday, alleged she was the victim of sexual assaults at a business in the 2300 block of Dewdney Avenue on Oct. 29 and 30.

On Friday, police arrested Robert Rhett Burgess from Regina. Sources say Burgess taught at Balfour Collegiate as recently as March.

Terry Lazarou, a spokesperson for Regina Public Schools, told CTV.ca that Burgess has worked as a substitute teacher in the past, but is no longer working in the division.

Burgess is accused of two counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual exploitation and two counts of uttering threats.

He made his first court appearance in Regina on Monday morning.
