A 17-year-old girl accused in the stabbing death of a woman in North Central Regina is now facing upgraded charges of second-degree murder.

The teen was previously charged with attempted murder, but those charges were amended after the 18-year-old victim died from her injuries in hospital Monday.

The accused teen made a brief court appearance Thursday. She currently remains in custody.

On Sunday morning, police responded to a report of an injured female in the 900 block of Retallack Street.

Officers found the accused girl with minor injuries and, moments later, located the victim, who had sustained life-threatening injuries, near Fourth Avenue and Rae Street.

Investigators believe the two teens were involved in an altercation at a house in the 1000 block of Rae Street.

The accused teen cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
